Eligibility

1. Only Indian nationals and Indian institutions are eligible to apply for the award.

2. For institutions, voluntary organisations, corporate entities, academic/research institutions, response/ uniformed forces or any other institution may apply as an institution for the award.

3. The Individual/Institution for the award must have worked in the area of Disaster Management like Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness, Rescue, Response, Relief, Rehabilitation, Research/ Innovations or Early Warning related work in India.

4. The application must be accompanied by details of the work done in disaster management and must highlight achievements in anyone or more of the following areas:

a) Saving human lives

b) Reduction in impact of disasters in terms of loss of lives, live stock, livelihoods, property and adverse socio-economic effects on communities

c) Mobilisation and provision of resources for effective response during disasters

d) Immediate relief work in disaster hit areas and communities

e) Effective and innovative use of technology in any field of disaster management.

f) Disaster mitigation initiatives in hazard prone areas g)Capacity building of communities for response and risk reduction.

h) Early warning systems and dissemination of disaster risk information to people on real time basis.

i) Scientific/ technical research and innovation in any field of disaster management.

j) Post-disaster recovery and rehabilitation.

k) Continued availability of critical infrastructure and basic services during disasters.

l) Creating awareness among the masses for preparedness against disaster

m) Any other area related to Disaster Risk Management

Decoration

Winners in both individual and institutional categories will be felicitated with a Scroll. In addition, the winning institution shall receive a Plaque and winning individual shall receive a Medal.

Who can nominate ?

Any individual and institution can nominate an individual or institution for the award. The application for the same can be filed between 1st July to 31st August each year.

Selection Process

A three tier screening process shall be followed. Secretary NDMA will convene and head the first tier with representation from MHA DM Div. The Second tier shall incorporate consultation from SDMAs/DDMAs and experts regarding contributions/achievements/facts given by the applicants. The third tier screening will be done at MHA with representation from experts in disaster management from SDMAs and various Ministries like Agriculture,Mines etc.
